This river runs beside Nakajima Park, and is a popular place for people from the area to play in the water in the summer.
The Kamogawa River is located upstream of the Soseigawa River, and the approximately 2.5km stretch from the fork of the Toyohira River to Minami 6-jo Nishi 1-chome, where the Soseigawa River begins, is called the Kamogawa River.
There is no established theory as to its name, with some theories including that it was named after the Kamogawa River in Kyoto, which was used as a model for Sapporo's town planning, and another theory that it was named after the Ainu word for "kamo kamo", a tool for catching salmon.
Along the Kamo River, there are old buildings such as Japanese restaurants, and there are traces of history, and the waterfront is beautiful as the seasons change, with cherry blossoms in the spring and autumn leaves in the fall.
