The "Heisei Poplar Row" was planted in 2000 by planting trees brought back from the United States and taking cuttings from the row of poplar trees in Kita 11-jo, which was maintained as a windbreak.
The Hokkaido University Museum has a musical instrument called a harpsichord made from a fallen poplar, and there is a phrase in Latin that says, ``The poplar was born in the land of Sapporo, fell down in a storm in 2004, and was brought here in 2006.'' It is engraved with ``Resurrection''.
You can feel the aspirations of the citizens to protect nature and scenery, as well as the aspirations of the poplars that protected Hokkaido University as a windbreak.
