The foreigners who came to Japan to promote Western-style town development passed on many Western techniques and cultures to the people of Sapporo.
Christianity is one of them, and in 1877 (Meiji 10), Shosuke Sato and 14 other students from the first class of Sapporo Agricultural College, who were inspired by William Clark,
His baptism by M.C. Harris, a Methodist Episcopal Church missionary living in Hakodate, became the basis for the beginning of the United Church of Christ in Japan, Sapporo Church.
On September 7, 1889 (Meiji 22), the Sapporo Mii Church was organized and missionary notification was submitted, and in September 2014 it celebrated its 125th anniversary.
